What is a Pain Medicine Specialist?

A Pain Medicine Specialist is an expert in the diagnosis and treatment of painful disorders. A physician who specialises in pain medicine provides a high level of care, either as a primary physician or consultant, for patients experiencing problems with acute, chronic or cancer pain in both hospital and ambulatory settings. Pain Medicine is a multidisciplinary subspecialty and patient care needs may be coordinated with other specialists.
